Advertising on FootballUnited.com
Yes, you can!
We’re interested in carrying advertising from:
Brands that sponsor football…
… are very welcome.
We can place your advertising alongside the professional teams you’re already associated with (UEFA and Conmebol leagues, for now), and in any other country of your choice.
For now, rates are by negotiation, on a brand by brand, campaign by campaign basis.
Local Companies that are involved with their local football club
We want to support local businesses in their support of clubs… If your business helps your local club (professional or amateur), and they’re on FootballUnited.com, then please get in touch.
We’re not interested in carrying ads from:
- gambling services
- smutty stuff
- any designs for goods that are illegal or misleading.
Causing offence with advertising
Some of our display advertising is delivered through OpenX.org’s marketplace: if you see any inappropriate or offensive advertising please let us know.
And whoever you are, please don’t call if your ad pops over our bloggers’ work, or under it.
If you’ve got a great campaign, we’ll find relevant content to run it against. Which, as you probably know, is usually more interesting for our readers and more effective for your business.
… and
If you’ve a football blog, then bring it to FootballUnited and share in our advertising income

The refining process: Themes and Plugins

I want to keep you as up-to-date as possible as we work through this transition process from FootballUnited to Golbox.
Themes and Plugins: What stays, what goes?
One of the big (big) aims of this transition is to streamline the service so that it makes focussing on what you do best (blogging!) as easy as possible. The biggest change you’ll see here is a refining of the themes and plugins that we offer.
I would like to stress that if you are using a plugin, widget or theme it won’t be removed (where applicable I may point you in the direction in an improved plugin)
For example we currently offer about a million different plugins for integrating Twitter with your blog. Obviously one or two that covered everything would be easier for, well, just about everyone!
On the theme front, we have hundreds. But after a good root through it was beginning to look a bit like a 3 year old wardrobe full of clothes that were fashionable ages ago but less so now (there are, of course, some gems in there – but you’ve already found and use all those!!)
Again, the plan is to pull the plug on many outdated themes (detailed below) but replace with a handful that are truly delightful. One of them will offer you huge amounts of customisation, all with drag and drop functionality. It’s fantastic.
Themes we’ll be saying goodbye too
None of these themes are currently being used so we’ll be phasing them out in time for the move on Sunday night:
- Citrus Island
- Comment Press
- Cordobo Green Park
- Daisy Rae
- Deep Blue
- Day Dream
- Dignity
- Fjords
- FrameFare Theme
- Green Machine
- Pinky Kupy (finally!!)
- Quentin
- Roundflow
- Terra Firma
- WordPress II Silver
I’m pretty sure these won’t be missed!
Anyway, as always, please please get in touch if there’s anything you want to chip in or suggest. This is all about getting it right for you!
Sam

FootballUnited is changing!
FootballUnited is changing
I’m exceptionally proud of FootballUnited. I’m exceptionally proud of you guys; I mean, I’ve been blogging alongside a few of you for coming up to 5 years now!
Which is why I’m absolutely delighted to announce that as of Monday 18th, I will be taking over the reigns of FootballUnited. To Will, Johan and Anders I’m exceptionally grateful – I feel a little like Villa Boas to Will’s Mourinho. Thank you for all the support (et al!) you’ve provided over the past two and a half years.
Golbox is coming

The change of ownership also comes with a change in name. As of Monday the network will now operate as
Golbox and on lightening fast new servers.
The main reason behind the change in name is because from extensive feedback, discussions and surveys we feel we need to better represent what we do and the service that we offer. The feeling gathered was that many of you would like even greater flexibility whilst still in the security of knowing you’re in a managed blog environment.
The re-launch will come with three packages for new users to choose from – the basic (and free one) will be a fresh, streamlined, version of the one you’re all used to so no need to worry! The other two packages will add varying degrees of customisation, depending on what your needs require.
If I feel your blog would benefit in a package other than the equivalent on what you’re on now, then I will definitely be in touch and, needless to say, your service will remain entirely free forever.
In the coming weeks, after the re-launch, we’ll be announcing some new features and some improved old ones. I cannot wait.
Your service remains exactly the same
There are many things that after thorough thought, we felt we’ll want to get rid of or improve. Again, don’t worry this will impact people signing up as of Monday -
your service as you know it, will remain the same (theme, plugins, widgets etc etc)
I also want to assure you that all proper redirects from footballunited.com to golbox.com will be in place, you won’t need to worry about updating readers (unless you want to!)
Feedback
——-
So, enjoy the rest of the pre-season. For reasons known only to Avram Grant (and every other West Ham fan) my season will be starting a bit earlier than usual this year.
Please, if you need to ask any questions, get in touch!

It’s time for feedback
You may have noticed that we’ve been somewhat quiet over the past few weeks. That’s not to however that we’ve not been busy…we most certainly have!
In the coming weeks there’s going to be a significant change taking place at FootballUnited, preparations for which are well under way.
Sam will be in touch by email soon to give you the absolute low down, but in the meantime there’s a short survey we’d love for you to fill out. We’ve always been grateful for your feedback and now is the time for us to take on some more. The link for the survey is below:

Maintenance, 04-03-2011 00:00-03:00 GMT
Tonight we’ll be performing some essential site maintenance to make sure everything continues to run smoothly and securely.
We have allowed 3 hours to get done what is necessary however we hope this is over generous and the service will be back to normal before then.
During the maintenance period, your normal FUTd service will be intermittent
Thank you for your patience

Contacting Ed. (Well, Sam really)
Afternoon all
I was going to write this as a tweet but realised it was almost physically impossible to restrict it to 140 characters.
It’s more of a reminder (and a tip for new bloggers) really.
There’s a really easy way to contact me if for whatever reason you may need to. Whether it’s just for a general football chat, or if you have any particular blogs you think we should read etc etc
(Tech requests are best made in the forum - so the answer could help everyone)
- Just log-in on the FootballUnited homepage
- Then select ‘My FootballUtd’ from the ‘Latest’ dropdown menu
- There you’ll uncover a whole social side of FootballUtd, including ‘‘Messages‘
- Then just click on ‘Messages’ and then ‘Compose’
- Then just enter the username of the blogger you want to speak with, for me it’s samh
Once logged in, you can access your messages, mentions, friend requests and favourites from the top toolbar that follows you around the site
Enjoy and keep up the great writing. It’s making my season!

Virus warnings
Today we’ve noticed that we’ve been getting some “virus warning” alerts on some of our pages. Thank you to those of you who spotted this and let us know.
A couple of brief points to note as we continue to fix this issue:
- From what we can tell, it’s not a problem that will infect your machine.
- It is something that will direct users to different URLs to those being displayed in the ad, when clicked.
- Modern browsers will protect you and your readers from the infected ads. Here are links to the most recent versions of each major brower, we recommend you upgrade:
- Internet Explorer
- Firefox
- Chrome
- Opera
- One other thing that you could do if you are seeing the errors on your own blog is to remove the ‘Adshare’ widgets temporarily. No need to do it if you’re not seeing an error!
So, be encouraged that it’s not an immediate danger to your computer, make sure you’re using a secure browser and I can assure you we’re working hard to patch up the issue.
I’ll update you here when it’s fixed – we’ll work all night if that’s what it takes!
UPDATE: Temporarily, we’ve had to disable the Adshare widgets. These will be restored asap – 22:14, 16/11/10
UPDATE: The problem is now fixed & all suspect ads have been removed. We still need to restore the Adshare widgets to their former glory. Thanks for your patience – please let me know if anything comes up your end!
